History of Grama Panchayat

The village has a notable tradition in astrology and traditional medicine. It also has a rich heritage of promoting and nurturing traditional art forms such as Kalaripayattu, Parichamuttukali, Ezhamuthi, Porattukali, and Kaikottikali.

The historically renowned military expedition of Tipu Sultan passed through this Panchayat. During the early decades of the last century, palanquins, horse-drawn carriages, and bullock carts were the main means of transportation. It was also common for ordinary people to travel long distances on foot.

The oldest transportation route in this Panchayat later developed into what is now the Cherpulassery–Palakkad Main Road. Electricity reached this village in 1956. In the early days, people depended mainly on private wells for drinking water.

The village has a vibrant cultural tradition, with libraries, arts and sports organizations, cultural associations, and professional and amateur dance and drama troupes serving as important platforms for cultural activities.
